'Introduction to Lime Pointing & Plastering' One Day Course 26th January 2018
Join us for a practical one day course and gain "hands-on" experience in using traditional lime and techniques to repair and maintain old buildings. Our approach is to create a relaxed environment where you will enjoy learning, with ample opportunity for discussion in the breaks. Course numbers are limited to ensure individual attention.
For each session there is a practical demonstration and then participants are encouraged to have a go themselves, with guidance at hand. All tools and materials are provided but please bring protective clothing and wellington boots. Safety glasses & waterproof work gloves can be provided if required.
Introduction to Lime
The fundamental aspects of the use, preparation and curing times of Lime, the history and usage, selecting sands, types of lime and the use of hair in mortar as well as the different mixing techniques and applications. We will also touch on some of the new lime based products that are available on the market that work in harmony with old buildings and new buildings alike.
Pointing brickwork, preparation of joints, selecting mortars & tools, pointing techniques, protecting the work, problem solving and finishing techniques.
Rendering & plastering with lime putty mortars, preparing the surface, selecting materials & tools, rendering and plastering techniques and final finishes.
Be aware that much of this course is outdoors so please keep an eye on the weather forecast and bring appropriate clothing. All tools and materials are available for purchase at the end of the course.
